The Lupus Foundation of America National Research Program supports lupus investigators at all phases of their careers. The Gina M. Finzi Memorial Student Summer Fellowship Program was established to foster an interest among medical school students in research relevant to lupus that is conducted under the supervision of an established lupus investigator. Jennifer Mall is a medical student who is working under the supervision of Dr. Joseph Ahearn at the Lupus Center of Excellence at the Allegheny-Singer Research Institute, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In this video, Jennifer discusses the research project she is undertaking as part of her Finzi Fellowship. She is seeking to follow up with the members of the Pittsburgh Lupus Cohort, a group of patients with lupus who have been followed for over 20 years to determine whether the risk CVD risk factors identified two decades earlier remain valid. Heart disease now is one of the leading complications of lupus.
